Soph Sobota
Hi hello! I’m Soph (they/she/he) and I’m from Milford, DE. I graduated from UD in 2025 with a BA in Psychology and am currently a Master’s student with Walden University to get licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Currently, I’m a Peer Lead at Sean’s House and an Event Assistant, Moo Mobile driver, and Supervisor at the UDairy Creamery.
Coming from a family where work ethic defined my self-worth, battling depression and anxiety in my youth was challenging. I thought I wasn’t allowed to talk about how I was feeling until someone shared a similar story with me. That’s what Sean’s House is like; feeling trapped and not knowing where to start until someone breaks that silence and makes you feel seen and like you matter. Ever since junior year of high school, being open and honest about what I’m experiencing and going to therapy has made a big impact on my mental well-being. Working at Sean’s House started as a way to give back to my community and gain experience as a future counselor, then became a safe space to feel supported and a place to find someone friendly.
My therapist told me that recovery is like a roller coaster. Even though I know I’m doing better now with more supportive people around me and helpful tools at my disposal, I still have difficult days–and sometimes weeks with PMDD. On these days, I have to remind myself that rest is important, that I am enough and I do matter. When I advocate for others to take time for themselves and reach out for support, I am reminded to hold myself accountable for the same thing, and it has gotten easier with repetition and practice.
Besides work, outside of Sean’s House I spend a lot of time with my roommates! We love to watch shows/anime together, play games, play tennis, and just talk (circle time!). When I’m not with my roommates, I’m typically working out, cooking, listening to music, singing, or dancing. I want to learn more about other people’s interests, especially their music taste, and I look forward to meeting new people! If you see me around the house, say hi!
