Emma Slaughenhoupt
Hi!! My name is Emma Slaughenhoupt, I use she/her pronouns, and I am from Shady Side, Maryland. I am currently a senior studying Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences.
I was drawn to Sean’s House because I wanted to be able to take my own experiences with anxiety and losing a parent to suicide and use it to do good in my community and support others in their mental health journeys. The Sean’s House community is a breath of fresh air and brings light to a time when so many people are struggling. I am so grateful to have found this community and to call it home!
Recovery is unique to each individual and looks different for everybody. For me, recovery means taking the time to slow down and take care of myself, whether it’s just making sure I am meeting my basic needs or doing a little bit of extra self-care for myself. I also think a big part of my recovery is being able to use my own experiences to help and support others. It feels really good to know that I have the opportunity to make positive changes in others’ lives.
Outside of Sean’s House, I am also a member of Psi Chi (The International Honor Society in Psychology) and a student run dance team, Destination Dance. I also have a job back home at a summer camp for elementary aged kids. I really enjoy reading, going to concerts, thrifting, and hanging out with my friends/making new friends!!
